Blue River is one of the exeptional rivers to fish. Starting near Hoosier Pass, Blue Rivers is about 60 miles outside of denver and flows north through Breckenridge and Silverthorn until it reaches and converges with the Colorado River.

To start fishing in BlueRriver, you must travel to the first fishing area close to Breckenridge. With it's steep slopes (over 8,000 feet) this is a great spot to not only fish, but view the beautiful landscape of Colorado. This stretch of river is full of trought averaging 12-14 inches in length and with the town of Breckenridge making sure this was a good fishing zone by adding deep runs and ponds to hold trout, you are guaranteed easy access to all fisheries.

Past Breckenridge falls Lake Dillon. This is where a fisherman can be quite productive during the spawning seasons in spring and fall. Don't worry to much about this area of the river as the next section of Blue River is where most fisherman like to travel.

North of Lake Dillon you will find a strech of river that flows through Silverthorne. This is the prime location for people who like to fish for trout. The average size here ranges from 16-17 inches upwards to a little over 24 inches. The large trout are mainly found in the first few miles pass the Dillon Dam and shrink in size the farther north you go. Howeverm you will find quality fishing all the way until you hit the Colorado River.

Lake Dillon
The best time to fish lake Dillon is during the times this lake is flooded. The river produces the best fishing times as many trout enjoy hanging out around the banks. Anglers need to be aware that they don't want to travel to deep into the water or they will standing exaclty where they should be fishing.

Look for when Lake Dillon is filled and the drain is draining the warm water on top of the lake down to the freezing water at the bottom. This is the perfect time for anglers as the trout activity climbs drastically.

Silverthorne
The river along Silverthorne is the place where most anglers go to when they want to fly fish. Because this can be a busy part of blue river, it is best that you disguise yourself with small flies and tippets. Do remember that this is strictly catch and release.
Past Silvethorne is a stretch of blue river that bounces back and forth between public and private access. Because highway 9 follows parallel to the river, there are many easy access points to pull off and fish.

Green Mountain Reservoir
The Green Mountain Reservoir has many great places to fish. The inlet serves as a place where the water temperature can rise a bit creating an increase in the number of trout and salmon in the area. Do not venture past the reservoir though as the remaining area stands to be private.
Your weather just got better.
