About the Reservoir
The reservoir usually opens mid April. It gets chaotic with people lining up before the gates open to take a shot at the trophy trout here. Float tubes are an excellent choice to work the water. Take the wind in to consideration when preparing a game plan. Bring out an orange scud, soft hackle midges, and Prince Nymph if you decide to fish along the dam. Scuds are the primary food source throughout the year, along with crawfish and leeches. Fish here also prey on mayflies, damselflies and midges. You will find the ultimate mayfly and midges hatches of the year during May and June.
Northern pike are found in the shallows by early June. Check out the northern part of the reservoir with bunny flies in size 1/0 to 3/0. Color black does well. Be sure to carry the Clouser Minnow, Lefty's Deceivers, and Woolly Buggers if it is pike you're after. Go with a 9-foot piece of level 0x monofilament from the fly line with an 18-inch piece of nylon coated steel wire tippet for best results.
